Daily Bible Reading — Sustained By God’s Word Of FaithSample

May 2
Introduction
The tribes west of the Jordan River heard that the eastern tribes had built their own altar, and for this they were prepared to wage war. Phinehas (grandson of Aaron and son of Eleazar) is appointed to speak to the eastern tribes, stating that building another altar is in disobedience to the LORD.
Today’s Scripture: Joshua 22:22a
“The Mighty One is God! He is the LORD!”
Today’s Reading
Joshua 22:10-34
Reflect
According to Deuteronomy 12:5-19, the LORD wanted the Israelites to have only one altar for offering sacrifices. What does Phinehas say to the eastern tribes? How did the eastern tribes respond? How was the matter resolved? According to verse 34, what purpose did the altar serve? In what ways does your community of faith bear witness to God?
Prayer
Sovereign God, you are our Mighty God and Lord of all. I worship you and praise your holy name. Amen.
Prayer Concern
National diplomats
Tomorrow’s Reading
Joshua 23:1-16: Joshua prepares to bid farewell to the people of Israel.
