You’ve probably noticed that if you hang with your friends long enough, you start saying the things they say and doing the things they do. If we spend enough time around someone, we become like them. 

We can’t help becoming like those we hang around, but we can choose the type of people we surround ourselves with. We can choose to hang around toxic people who bring out the worst in us, or we can choose to hang out with people who encourage us, support us, and lead us closer to Jesus. 

Following Jesus can be tough. But when the people beside you are cheering you on and helping you, it gets so much easier.

When we surround ourselves with the people of God, we can look around and know we’re not alone. We have people to share our struggles and successes with, and we learn more about God from the faith stories we share with one another. 

The same way that meeting a friend’s family gives you insight into who they are, as we see God at work in each other’s lives, we get a better picture of how big and kind and faithful He is. And as our understanding of God grows, so does our trust in Him. 

Day by day, step by step our confidence in who we are grows. Until one day, we find we are living the life He designed for us.
