DAD IS SAFE

When you hear the word “safe,” what is the first thing that comes to mind? 

Maybe you think of curling up under a blanket, enjoying a relaxing nap. Maybe you see a place where you feel safe, like a park or a ball field? Or maybe you picture a good friend or relative who accepts you just as you are.  

The people, places, and situations that make us feel safe are the same ones where we experience peace. To be safe is to be protected from danger or risk. There’s no anxiety or fear of what others think. What if you could have that kind of peace all the time?

You can with your heavenly Dad.

We can’t spend all day every day under a blanket or at the ball field. But God’s Spirit, His presence, comes with us wherever we go. Even when our circumstances are chaotic, we can feel safe and protected knowing God loves us and is with us.  

I don’t know anyone who has made it through life unharmed. Some hurt is the result of our own choices — like procrastinating on a paper, staying up late, and then making a bad grade. But other hurts come through no fault of our own, like someone spreading rumors about you at school.  

Becoming a Christian is not a magic potion that grants all your wishes and makes life easy. You will still have tough times. Becoming a Christian means we have access to peace in the middle of those tough times. 

Instead of dwelling on the circumstances around you, dwell on who is with you. Take heart in knowing your heavenly Dad loves you and is fighting for you. He loves you as you are and wants to be your refuge, your safe place in the storm.

• What do you feel anxious about right now? Ask God to meet you there, and that His presence and peace would be known to you. 
• Nothing you can do can make God love you less. How does that make you feel? Do you feel loved by Him? Ask God to reveal His love to you this week.
