Summer Vibes Only

DAY 3 OF 23

SET THE RELATIONSHIP

Have you ever liked someone who seemed to like you back, but you just aren’t quite sure? You thought they were flirting. They text you a lot. You’ve had those moments of eye contact. But the question is still hanging in the air: Are we a thing or not?

Someone has to go first in defining a relationship. When it comes to our relationship with God, He went first. God defined the relationship once and for all when He sent His son, Jesus, to declare His love for us.

God made a way for us to be in relationship with Him forever through Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. If Jesus is your Lord and Savior, then you and God are so a thing. He made sure of it (2 Corinthians 5:21).

But the thing is, relationships either grow or weaken. God wants your relationship to grow closer over time. The relationship is set. But the intimacy of that relationship is up to you and me.

Everything you do, this summer and for the rest of your life, will flow from how you see you and God together. How close are you? How close do you want to be? Have you even thought about that?

This has always been about you and Him. He just wants to be together. And as Hebrews 10 tells us, His throne is always open. Feel free to get as close as you want.

Respond

  • Jesus made a way for us to have a real, growing relationship with God. Have you ever asked Jesus into your life and started a relationship with God?
  • If so, thank Jesus! Remember where you were when it happened. Ask God to show you where He wants you to grow together.
  • If not, you can do that today! Romans 10:9 says, “if you confess with your mouth that Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” You can start a relationship with Jesus right now by simply doing those two things: confess and believe.
  • Relationships break down when there’s a lack of communication. Prayer is how we communicate with God. Spend some time praying to God. Let Him know how you are feeling. Ask Him to teach you what His voice sounds like.
