THE GOD SHOUTSample
When it comes to the subject of God’s voice, there has been much said about the “still small voice” of God.
It’s true that Elijah encountered the still, small voice of God. But this was the experience of one depressed Prophet in a cave at one moment in time. I don’t believe it was ever intended to be the sole defining passage on the nature of God’s voice.
Yes, God can speak in whispers, but He also knows how to shout if He has to.
His voice is still and small, His voice thunders and His voice is all volumes in between.
I’ve heard a God shout. It was in 1992. I had just completed a ministry training school in Brisbane on the east coast of Australia. I was getting set to return to my hometown of Perth, (on the west coast), to my family, my friends, my job and everything that I had put on hold for the 5 months prior. I was walking along the foreshore of a local beach when it happened. He shouted. “I want you stay here. I don’t want you to go back to Perth”.
I’m not talking about a sound heard audibly with my ears. It came like a loud thought that broke through all my present thinking, assumptions, and plans. Like Job, I could hardly catch my breath. The impact was so strong I remember staggering. His voice nearly knocked me off my feet!
Some of you find hearing God’s voice a hard thing. You strain and struggle to hear the whisper. You fear you’ll “miss it” because you can’t get silent enough, still enough, spiritual enough to hear Him! For you people especially, I have good news: God can shout if He needs to.
