Journey With HopeSample
don't forget what you saw on the mountain
We often describe our most intimate, clarifying times with God as 'mountain top experiences'. For some, it's the time where they got a picture of God's calling for their life, or found breakthrough in a lifelong struggle.
The ‘mountain’ is a sacred place of communion with God. It might only be your car or couch in practical terms, but its impact is revolutionary.
In Exodus 25 God is talking to Moses on the mountaintop about His plans for the Tabernacle. God instructs Moses about EVERYTHING: the height of the lampstands, colours of the curtains, setting of the table. God’s vision is detailed, it’s thorough, and it’s brilliant.
It’s significant then, as Moses goes back down the mountain to share the vision with the Israelite's, that God implores him to make everything according to what they discussed at the top. God had spoken specifically to Moses, and didn’t want their plans to be marred by what Moses may encounter when he was back with the people.
We may not be building something as grand as the Tabernacle, but just as Moses needed to hold on to the vision God gave Him, so do we. A lot of things can come between us and God’s plan for our lives, be it busyness, lethargy, or doubt from the naysayers. The important thing, as you go back into your day after time ‘on the mountain’, is that it reflects what you saw there, despite the alternatives that may be presented to you.
