JohnBlog - Word&Light Day 6
Unconnected to the eternal Word, man reverts to the flesh. He slips from his special status, made in the image of God, to being merely an animal. He is spiritually dead. Not only did the Word make us, but He made us to carry His spiritual DNA. Without it we are less than alive. In Him is the answer to the human question; the fulfillment of the heart’s longing. In Him is the only everlasting source of personal energy; the spark that lights the human flame. Only the life that has been with God from the beginning can satisfy us and make us truly alive. We are meant to be, were made to be, sons of God made after the image of Jesus, who has been with God from the beginning and who imagined us into being. Becoming a follower of Christ is a homecoming; a re-discovery of one’s roots.
The disciple:
Only in you Jesus, do we see things as they really are. Your life is the light of men. It illuminates me as with the rays coming from the sun. An adulterous thought may be a pleasant secret with the light switched off. Switch on the light and it is seen for what it is: a tragic step that leads to pain, sadness and regret; self-destructively leading towards death.
I saw a group of young men laughing and reveling in their self-centred lives driven by ambition and self-aggrandizement as if it were perfectly normal. You lifted the candle to them and they realized they were in darkness. They saw their fine garments for what they were: abnormal, a twisted version of what a man or woman is meant to be – life lived in humble submission to the father-hearted God of the universe. The way you have lived ‘since the beginning’.
The Lord:
On earth, as in heaven, I only did what my Father asked of me. It is all I ask of you. Live in me and I will live in you. I will walk with you, enlightening your path, opening your eyes and bringing light to those around you.
The Disciple:
Fill me Spirit of Jesus. Infuse my life with the light and love you have shared with the Father from the beginning, so that like Moses, my face glows with your reflected glory.

About this Plan
A meditation on John inspired by the 15th Century devotional ‘Imitation of Christ.’ In 2011 Chris Webster, a professor with positions at Hong Kong and Cambridge Universities, awoke from a 4 day coma. He started writing JohnBlog as spiritual instructions for his teenage daughter and son should he not return from a second cardiac arrest. This also tells everyone why he exuberantly loves life but considers death as gain.
