Daily Bible Reading — Sustained By God’s Word Of Peace And Justice

DAY 11 OF 31

October 11

Introduction

The first day of the seventh month of the Hebrew calendar, runs from about mid-September to mid-October. The first day of this month was the start of the New Year Festival, or Festival of Trumpets, known as Rosh Hashanah, meaning “the beginning of the year.” It was observed by horn blasts, special sacrifices, and rest from work. The Day of Atonement took place ten days later. A detailed description of this observance can be found in Leviticus 16 (see the readings from August 25 and 26). As noted in chapter 28, the people are instructed to gather for worship.

Today’s Scripture: Numbers 29:2a
