Freedom and Respect
1 Peter 2:16, 17
“Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God. Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.”
The incredible freedom that Jesus gives us from the bondages of sin and fear of death are not a license to explore further sinful behavior, but rather to serve God. We have submitted to the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the source of authority and so when we submit to any earthly authority (the Church, or the King/government), we are acknowledging that God’s authority is present. It is this combination of great inner freedom and great humility and deference to authority that marks the servants of God. We submit out of strength and the security that comes through our relationship with the King of kings.
Father God, I humble myself before you this day and thank you for spiritual freedom. Your presence is my greatest gift and source of strength. May my life make you attractive to others today.
