Daily Bible Reading – March 2020 God’s Life-Giving Word Of PrayerSample
March 7
Introduction
Today’s reading is a psalm that expresses both suffering and praise. The opening questions and complaints are balanced at the end by expressions of trust, confidence, and praise.
Today’s Scripture: Psalm 22:28
The LORD is king; and he rules the nations.
Today’s Reading
Psalm 22
Reflect
Today’s reading is a psalm that is often read in many churches on Good Friday, a day that marks the crucifixion of Christ. The opening question (verse 1), which expresses a feeling of abandonment, is quoted by Jesus from the cross (see Matthew 27:46 and Mark 15:34), and this kind of question often appears in prayers for help (see Psalm 13:1, 2). What other verses in this psalm bring to mind Jesus’s suffering on the cross? How does the first part of the psalm (verses 1-21) differ from the second part (verses 22-31)? Is it hard to praise God in the midst of suffering? Why or why not?
Pray
Lord God, when I cry to you for help, I trust that you hear me and that you are near. Whenever I may feel that you have abandoned me, remind me of your steadfast presence and love. Amen.
