GO2020 | ENGAGE: March Week 3 - CARE

DAY 4 OF 7

March 18—The Unexpectedly Inconvenient

Read

Matthew 9:10-13

Reflect

Have you ever sat down to eat at an outdoor café in a large city and had someone ask you for food or money? It seems so unexpectedly inconvenient. Whether you offer something or not, your personal space can seem violated.

Jesus seemed to attract people on a regular basis when he sat down (reclined) to eat. In the time of Jesus, the religious and social elite could not be touched by the sinner or those who were down and out, yet Jesus never refused them. In our day, whom does society hold at arm’s length. How will we follow Jesus in our outreach to those who unexpectedly inconvenience us?

Engage

Read today’s Scripture passage. Say or write it out in your own words, considering the following questions:

· What does it say about God?

· What does it say about us?

· Is there a promise to trust?

· Is there a command to obey?

· How will I apply this Scripture to my life?

· Who will I show that I care by sharing this truth?

Memorize

Now read this week’s memory verse, James 1:27. Spend a few minutes working to memorize it.

About this Plan

GO2020 | ENGAGE: March Week 3 - CARE

Human need comes in many different forms—from a stranger asking for directions to a loved one in desperate need of healing. Our care for them can be physical, but often it is care for the soul, such as being present with a friend experiencing heartbreak. A hurting world calls for people who care. In Scripture we discover various folks who need the care of the followers of Jesus.
