Lessons From The Book Of Titus

DAY 4 OF 5

For men 18-49 (and those who love them)

Godliness for younger guys is simple. In Titus chapter 2, Paul gives older guys a long list (be temperate, self-controlled, loving, etc). Older women get many boxes to check (don’t slander, get drunk, etc.). Younger women receive seven separate to-dos. But younger guys? Just one.

“Encourage the young men to be self-controlled” (Titus 2:6). That’s it! Apparently, Paul knew enough young Christian men to summarize his advice in a single word—Don’t! Guys, I know you’re thinking about it, but don’t! I know your buddies are doing it, but don’t! I know part of you really wants to, but don’t! Don’t be the next guy who cares more about video gaming than about God, who has ingested more Hot Cheetos and Monster Energy drinks than Communion’s bread and wine, who wastes his 20s seeking the temporary things of life and forgets the eternal blessings of God.

Man, I wish I would have heard those words when I was 15. There are years that I can’t get back and sins I can’t un-commit. Thankfully, there is mercy for the younger me and grace that motivates me to leverage my remaining years as a “younger man” (Psalm 25:7).

If you’re a young Christian guy, pray over Paul’s words today. If you’re not, ask our Father to strengthen his wrinkle-free sons. Lord, raise up a new generation of men who love God with all of their hearts and use their strength to serve others.
