Lessons From The Book Of Titus

DAY 5 OF 5

For women 18-49 (and those who love them)

If you’re a female under 50, who’s the best person at church to teach you how to live a God-pleasing life? (Hint: It’s not the pastor.)

While the apostle Paul told Pastor Titus to teach older men and women as well as younger guys, he seemed to miss one major demographic in the church—younger women. Actually, he didn’t forget but rather entrusted their discipleship to those who might be best equipped. [The older women] can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God” (Titus 2:4,5).

While Paul’s assumption that younger women would mostly be married mothers isn’t as true in modern America, his wisdom still stands. There are some things about the female experience that a man like me will never fully grasp. That’s where experienced sisters in Christ are so valuable. They can sympathize and relate to unique struggles that younger women face. They can urge the next generation to honor Jesus in all they do at home and in the world for the health of their families and the reputation of God’s Word.

Younger ladies, is there an older woman in your church who might mentor you? Seasoned sisters, is there a younger woman in the faith who could use your wisdom? Make a connection today, for your own growth and for God’s glory.
