The Whole Story: A Life in God's Kingdom, Part FourSample

The Whole Story: A Life in God's Kingdom, Part Four

DAY 20 OF 30

Family Devotional:

The story of Jesus’ baptism in Matthew 3 is a necessary section of scripture to understand for a few reasons. First, it gives believers a sense of the purpose of baptism. It is an outward declaration of the allegiance declared to the kingdom of God. More, Jesus’ baptism also demonstrated the spiritual implications of baptism. Notice, as soon as Jesus was baptized, something in the spiritual realm shifted. So much so, in fact, that the heavens opened and God himself affirmed Jesus’ identity. These two truths help us to see that baptism is more than just a commitment. Baptism is a siding with God’s kingdom paired with a declaration of war on the enemy. God’s people are made new through the incredible work of Jesus – evidenced by baptism and participation in the kingdom.

Daily Demonstration:

Have you been baptized? Perhaps there is no better time than now to declare loyalty to King Jesus. Do you know other people who have not taken the step of baptism? Consider reaching out to these people and presenting them with the gospel and the meaning of baptism. Pray that God would move on the hearts of his people.
