River Valley Church SOAP - Part 4Sample

In chapter five, Jesus meets a man at a place called Bethesda. The name Bethesda means a place rich in mercy, loving-kindness, and covenantal love. Jesus heals a blind man miraculously, but the Pharisees questioned if this act of love and kindness was lawful on the Sabbath? The Sabbath is a Holy Day of rest for the nation of Israel and part of the commandments which God gave to Moses on Mount Siani. The Pharisees were part of the Jewish religious sect who advocated strict obedience to the details of the Law and did not believe in the resurrection of the dead. John also records Jesus' miracle of feeding five thousand. Five thousand was the number of people that John recorded at this event, but traditionally women and children were never counted. Therefore 15-20 thousand people would have experienced this specific miracle.
