River Valley Church SOAP - Part 5Sample

Moses, the author of Exodus, describes the plague of firstborn death to be of such significance that God mandated the Passover event be commemorated with a yearly celebration to remember what the Lord did for Israel. The Lord then required Israel to celebrate this for seven days each year and not eat any yeast; then, parents would tell their children the story of being delivered from Egypt and the tyranny of slavery they experienced. Historical records date Ramses II as Pharaoh during this time. Pharaoh realized he made a mistake and began pursuing Israel in attempts to enslave them again. The Lord divided the sea with wind, allowing Israel to cross on dry ground, with walls of water on their right and left. The Lord then caused the seas to return and drown the Egyptian army. These miracles were done so the Lord would gain honor over Egypt.
