DAY 17 OF 28

Acts 17:30-31

30 “God overlooked people’s ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now He commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to Him.

31 For He has set a day for judging the world with justice by the man He has appointed, and He proved to everyone who this is by raising Him from the dead.”

In this chapter of Acts, Paul is speaking to the Greeks in Athens. He notices that the Athenians worship many gods and even have an altar to an “unknown god” in case they are ignorant of the existence of one god. Paul then used this as an opportunity to share about the one true God, Jesus Christ. Paul writes that God will forgive their ignorance, but only for those that repent.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to build an altar in my life to our God and never truly know Him or repent and truly worship Him for who He is. So many times, we take time out of our lives for family, for work, for friends, and we pour out so much of our time and energy into other things but don’t leave enough time for our God.

The Gospel tells us, and even Paul tells us here that it is fine to spend time doing other things, but we must repent, and our lives must change to reflect that repentance. I can remember growing up and saying prayers at night and saying sorry to God for everything I had done wrong that day. But the next day, I would go back to the same sin as the day before. True repentance is understanding that sin is causing separation between you and God and wanting to truly change so that you can have a whole and complete relationship with Him. We should all want to live a life that reflects that the altar to God that we have built shows that we love Him, that we want a relationship with Him, and that we have repented of our sin.
