Intro
Moments. The fragments of time that make up our days, months, and years. The economy that is most valuable to us. In a perfect world, we are soaking in every moment. No moment wasted. But in reality, urgency can easily become our focus and we lose touch with what’s truly important. Our attentiveness to these fragments of time starts flying by and before long we wake up and ask ourselves, “Where has the time gone?” Urgency and busyness are lonely companions. They can cause us to think we’re traveling this life alone. They can cause us to miss the beauty around us with our focus so set on what’s ahead. But we’re not alone and there is most definitely beauty to be found in this moment - whatever moment you’re in.
God is present with us in every moment.
In every season. In our highest and our lowest points. In the mundane and in the once-in-a-lifetime. He is near.
Psalm 139:7-10 NASB says, “Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.”
That’s the kind of scripture that causes you to take a deep breath. That’s a promise that brings peace. God’s presence in our every moment isn’t in question. The question is, “Are we aware of His presence in every moment?”
James 4:8 says, “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you...”
What does “drawing near” look like for you? When most of us draw near to someone, we prioritize that person. We choose to spend time with them; to have conversations with them; to give them gifts and let them know we care about them. What if we took that same approach with God? What if we prioritized Him in the moments of our days? One thing is certain when we draw near to Him, He will draw near to us. That’s not a hope. That’s a promise.
That’s the point of this study. To help us pinpoint some markers in our days when we can take inventory of the moments that God has been near to us. Here’s a challenge for you throughout this study. On a note app, a piece of paper, or journal write down this question: “How did I sense God today?” Place that somewhere you can see it throughout the day and write what moments you sensed God. It could be in the laugh of your child. A stranger helping you pick something up off the ground. The sunrise. A scripture. Sitting down at a table with food and realizing God has provided for you.
Let’s be more aware that the Maker of every moment is with us in every moment. Where did you sense God today?
