In Motion
God is present with us at all times. In all things.
For most of us, when we reflect on connecting with God, we think about a quiet time - often early in the morning, before the busyness and activity of our day fully kicks in. It’s a time focused on thanksgiving and prayer. A sacred space. A time set apart to just be still and know that He is God. (Psalm 46:10)
But as the pace of our days pick up, and we enter into the routine of daily work and production, what does our connection with God look like in those times? Our minds are set on tasks to accomplish and things to get done. It can be easy to feel like these hours are very disconnected from the way that we start our day.
Indeed, it can be all too easy for us to segment our lives in a variety of ways. We compartmentalize our spiritual lives from our working lives. We tend to separate the sacred from the secular. The majestic from the mundane. But the reality is, God wants to be present in all of it. Colossians 3:17 NIV says “And whatever you do, whether in word or in deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
But how do I set about to do everything I do as unto God? At first this could feel like a burden. Am I to pray constantly over every thought, every word, every action? How in the world could I ever get anything done!?
But there is a welcome reminder in the scriptures for all of us. The God who is present with us in the stillness and quiet of our day, is just as present in and through our active hours when our lives are fully in motion.
The promise we have as followers of Jesus, is that the Spirit of God is within us. 24/7. He works through our words and our efforts because we are the temple he dwells in. There is not a moment in our day that God is not actively moving in and through our lives. He is preparing the way for our actions, just as he is actively renewing our minds.
May we all be reminded today that there is power in our words. There is purpose in our work. Our labors are not in vain, nor are they inconsequential. The Holy Spirit brings life through all of it - life to us, and life to those around us.
Today, we can have the confidence to know that as followers of Jesus, every moment truly is holy. Our every move, every step - an act of worship to the one gave us life in the first place. Where did you sense God today?
About this Plan
Moments. The fragments of time that make up our days. The economy that's most valuable to us. In a perfect world, we're soaking in every moment. But in reality, urgency can easily become our focus and we lose touch with what’s truly important. Throughout this 5-day study from CCV Music, we look at the key moments of the day and see how God is present in every moment.
