CAN’T REFUSE 

13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.”

Have you ever wondered, "How do I pray? Does God hear my prayers? Is He on my side?"

Scripture shows us how humanity has interacted with God for thousands of years, and in many books of the Bible, we get to watch how people pray and talk with God – and how God answers them.  In books like Psalms and Habakkuk, we read conversations between humanity and God. In books like Jeremiah, we hear words from prophets who spoke directly from God to His people. 

Both show us what our prayer life can and should look like: raw, intimate, and honest. 

Can’t Refuse is a prayer, but it may not sound like one at first: 

I call on you 

You promise to show up each time that I do 

So prove that it’s true 

I'll stand with you 

I will be fearless and I will be true 

Will you stand with me too 

I'll stand with you 

The lyrics challenge; they question. Just like we do when we engage in an open conversation with God. 

Scripture says: “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”  

Well, sometimes our hearts have a lot of other stuff in them we have to get out first. 

Life brings its share of hard decisions, difficulties, and disappointments – our faithfulness isn’t dependent on us never having questions or doubts. God is great enough to carry any burden of hurt or anger we bring to Him, and in return, He offers us His presence and His promises: “I will be found by you.” 

When I look, I'll find you 

Seek God in moments of joy and of pain, in gratitude and in confusion. Throw all of your anxiety and cares on to Him, because He cares for you. God will show up for you, stand with you, and be found by you when you seek Him. 

ACTION 

Right now, are you in the middle of a difficult situation? Do you need healing, peace, or guidance? Take time to read scripture and ask God to show you what you can learn and how you can grow. Bring all of you to God in prayer and worship. Be as honest as you can. And repeat His words if you should doubt: “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” 

PRAYER 

God, you are big enough to handle my biggest problem or worry. You are good and compassionate. You love me more than anything else on the planet. You will take care of me and of the people I love. Thank you for who you are and what you promise me in the scriptures. Help me to seek you with all my heart today. Amen.
