Ancient Paths

Are you not glad that everybody is not like you? It is awesome to know there are people older than us, from whom we can gain wisdom. It is also awesome that there are people younger than us. to help us gain some pep and go. Learning from each other is a great thing. How boring it would be if we were all exactly alike. Instead, we are all different but we can come together, even if we have to bend and move a little bit to adjust to one another. 

God tells His people to find the ancient paths, to find the good way. Take the good path. Eternal truth leads to eternal fruit. In our society, we have taken eternal truths and flipped them on their head. We teach the opposite of these truths and then try to make sense out of society. So, we are confused. We find ourselves wondering what is real and true. 

There is something great about the ancient path. If you are a baby boomer, the ancient path is not the 1960s. It is not about getting back to the 1950s and 60s. We are talking about 2600 years ago. Eternal truths warm the soul. The best way I can illustrate this for you is with two words: Hallmark Movies. Have you ever watched a Hallmark movie? It is beautiful people, in beautiful houses, with beautiful lives. A boy meets a girl, there is probably a fight or misunderstanding. Then they get together, it’s Christmas, and everything just ends happily ever after. There are like 50 versions of the same plot, but we love them, don’t we? 

We are just normal people in messy homes with a lot of problems, and there is something about having our hearts go back to ancient paths. Our hearts desire it. They desire beautiful seasons. 

The Lord is telling Jeremiah that the ancient paths have worked over-time. They involve integrity, generosity, honesty, prayer, honoring, and trusting God. Walk with God. When you do so during this chapter in your life, you will see the reason for your season. You will know that this is the place you are meant to be. Your life will never be a Hallmark movie, but God can do something great in the midst of your season. Instead of always wanting another chapter in your life, want Jesus right where you are.
