There's A Reason For Your Season - #Life SeriesSample
Stay Faithful
Old paths can bring a new day. They can bring security. Our society is tearing up the old paths instead of walking down them, but I want to encourage you to remember that eternal fruit comes from eternal truth. Eternal truth will yield fruit in your life, but you have to stay faithful.
In whatever season you find yourself in, stay faithful. The author and pastor Eugene Peterson said, “Obedience is a long walk in the same direction.” It is a cumulative effect, the result of decades upon decades of walking with God. Stay faithful not only right now, in this very moment, but in the years to come. Stay faithful because you never know what eternal fruit is coming. You may be ready to be in a different season, but you are in this one, so keep walking with God.
We have a great illustration of faithfulness in our home. A godly woman from our church was my wife’s prayer partner for about 15 years. One day, she gave my wife a lemon tree as a gift. Quite frankly, one of the scariest things you can give our family is a plant, because we are not the best at keeping them alive. If anybody can kill a plant, it would be us. But we took this gift and had it planted. This was about 7 years ago. We never had any fruit on it until this year. This tree was in our backyard for years with no fruit, but we stayed faithful. Now our tree produces so much fruit we had to give some away because we were getting too many lemons.
My wife and I have taken that illustration of faithfulness to heart. We look at each other and say, “Lemon tree.” We trust that we will see fruit blossoming in an area of our life that has been dormant, possibly for years. We may have not known how it was going to turn out, but if we remain faithful, we will be able to see the fruit of what God does. When you see beautiful lemons, I want you to be reminded that eternal truth leads to eternal fruit.
Stay faithful, find the ancient way, and walk in it in every season, whether it is parenting, marriage, singlehood, midlife, or beyond. Beautiful fruit will come from your life. Lemons are beautiful but they can also be sour. As we age, we can choose to be sour or beautiful. Allow God to produce beautiful fruit in your life.
