Day Three - I can carry the light

Welcome to our Time to Shine devotional!  As we journey together through this devotional, we pray it will help our kids to understand that God is light.  He has given us His spirit to help us navigate through the darkness, just like a lighthouse helps ships to navigate dangerous waters, God’s light helps us to navigate this life.  We find His light in His word, in His people and in His presence.  Through well known Bible Stories we want our kids to know that the darkness cannot overpower God’s light!  

READ:

‘Gideon’s Battle’ in the Beginners Bible (pages 140 - 145) or in Judges 6-7.

God chose Gideon to help the people, and called him a ‘mighty warrior’. Gideon was very scared! He didn’t feel like a mighty warrior at all! 

God knew that deep down inside, Gideon was brave and strong. So He chose Gideon for His special task. God has special tasks for you, too. He knows you and speaks out how great you are! Gideon didn’t think he was good enough to do what God was saying, because he didn’t come from a rich or important family. 

To God, it doesn’t matter where you come from, who your family is or how much money you have. You are important to Him. 

The Bible says that when God looks at us, He looks at our hearts (1 Samuel 16:7), not at any of those other things. 

ASK:

Is there something that makes you feel like you’re not good enough? Remember that God is with us, and He says you ARE good enough! 

REMEMBER:

The Light shines in the darkness. And the darkness has not overpowered the Light. (John 1:5)

SAY: 

I can shine your light in the darkness,

With your love and kindness.

We don’t ever need to fear,

Because you are always near.

Your light is forever,

Overpowered by darkness?  Never!

We can trust in your light,

Shining so bright.

Leading us through even the darkest days, 

In your love and hope we will always stay.
