Week One - Day Two - God gives me light

Welcome to our Time to Shine devotional!  As we journey together through this devotional, we pray it will help our kids to understand that God is light.  He has given us His spirit to help us navigate through the darkness, just like a lighthouse helps ships to navigate dangerous waters, God’s light helps us to navigate this life.  We find His light in His word, in His people and in His presence.  Through well known Bible Stories we want our kids to know that the darkness cannot overpower God’s light!

The disciples were praying together. Then there was a noise and fire appeared. It was the Holy Spirit! 

When we pray together, it’s really powerful. 

We don’t always hear sounds or see fire, but there are lots of ways we can see or feel the Holy Spirit moving. Sometimes we can just feel Him close to us, in our hearts.

The Holy Spirit helps us to see God’s light in our world, through his word, through others and through how He provides for us. 

ASK:

Can you think of a time when you’ve felt/seen the Holy Spirit moving? Maybe ask your big person too! 

REMEMBER:

The Light shines in the darkness. And the darkness has not overpowered the Light. (John 1:5)

SAY:

I can shine your light in the darkness,

With your love and kindness.

We dot ever need to fear,

Because you are always near.

Your light is forever,

Overpowered by darkness?  Never!

We can trust in your light,

Shining so bright.

Leading us through even the darkest days, 

In your love and hope we will always stay.
