The Heart Attitudes: Part 1Sample

Philippians 2:5 NIV
“Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus”
Matthew 22:39 HCSB
“The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself”
Danny Gokey recorded a song, “Love God Love People”. In it there is the line, “ gotta keep it real simple” and the chorus concludes with “it all comes down to this love God and love people”. It’s a catchy tune with solid meaning.
The problem is loving people may be simple to sing but it’s not easy to do. The problem is not in the understanding that it’s what we should do and maybe even what we want to do. The issue is that we find it difficult to love certain people. That does not change when we become part of the family of God either. There are still difficult people to love inside the church.
One of the main reasons is that we are difficult to love at times ourselves. When we are honest, we know that our sinful nature is the root of that issue. We have been redeemed but we have not been made perfect yet!
The first four of the Heart Attitudes deal with loving others well. In fact, they could be called principles for a great and godly relationship. They work everywhere there are human beings in relationship with one another. As we go through the first four Heart Attitudes you can find application for them in every area of your life.
The Heart Attitudes are a way to help you learn to better love your neighbor as you love yourself.
