River Valley Church New Testament Soap Sprint Sample
Paul writes this letter to the Corinthian church, which he had earlier helped establish while living in Corinth. He has heard that they are demonstrating many inconsistencies in how they are living apart from the Christ-like character they were originally taught while he was with them. Paul is addressing some divisions that are going on as a result of misinformation and incorrect theology spread by other wayward teachers that have come to Corinth. He addresses multiple forms of sexual immorality that the believers are practicing, and describes how Christians are to live in alignment with God's original design for our sexuality within marriage between a man and a woman. Many Corinthians had been misled into believing that they were free to live however they desired, because they would always be extended grace and forgiveness.
Paul also talks about meat that had been offered to idols as part of pagan religious practices before being sold in the normal marketplace. He encourages Christians not to believe that the food had any power in itself, but to be cautious of the example they were setting by eating it in front of others who might incorrectly think it held some form of supernatural power.
