Super Bowl Distractions 

The ultimate goal for NFL teams is winning the Super Bowl. Whether it's walking into training camp or stepping onto the field on Super Bowl Sunday, the main focus is competing for the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

But before the two teams fulfill the dream of playing in the biggest sporting event, the players have a week filled with media responsibilities, family obligations, temptations, and opportunities for fun. 

These are all distractions from the game, and the game can easily become an afterthought if players don’t stay focused on their purpose for being there. 

When it comes to our own lives and following Jesus, we also have to be aware of the distractions surrounding us as we seek to stay focused on our purpose for being here. 

The Bible says in 1 John 2:15-17, “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.“

Both teams will be tempted to get caught up in the hype of Super Bowl week, but if they concentrate on their purpose for being there, they can avoid the interruptions that take them off course. 

Today, let’s be challenged to address and remove the distractions that prevent us from doing the will of God and let’s remain truly focused on Him.
