Darkness to Light: An Easter StorySample
We can’t comprehend the darkness or heaviness of the moment that Jesus Christ became sin. He called out at the end of that period of darkness, “My God, my God why hast thou forsaken Me?” When we read these words, I hope we are reminded again of something we have read in another part of the Bible. In the book of Psalms, we are given some prophecies about this very moment. Hundreds of years before Jesus hung here, the psalmist wrote some amazing words.
There are three Psalms that deal with the Shepherd.
- Psalm 22 as if it were written by the Son of God as He hung on the cross. It speaks of the Good Shepherd dying for the sheep.
- Psalm 23 speaks of the Great Shepherd who lives for His sheep.
- Psalm 24 speaks of the Chief Shepherd who will return for His sheep.
In Psalm 22 we hear about the Lamb of God. John 1:29 talks about how He (Jesus) taketh away the sin of the world. People should recognize that He is hanging on the cross after the darkness as the Passover Lamb — the Perfect Lamb that was slain.
There is no way Jesus could have staged someone wagging their head, looking up at Him and saying if He really were the Son of God, He could easily get down off that cross. He was the Son of God, and He easily could have gotten off the cross. He was not murdered. It was not the Jews who were responsible for His death. It was not the Romans who were responsible for His death. We are responsible for the death of Jesus Christ. It was our sin that put Him and kept Him there on that cross.
Psalm 22 was written hundreds of years before Jesus hung on the cross and the psalmist talks about events surrounding the crucifixion. If you do not believe the Bible, you need to examine this and wonder how this could have been predicted so exactly.
