Darkness to Light: An Easter StorySample

Darkness to Light: An Easter Story

DAY 6 OF 7

In Luke 24, we read of two men walking from Jerusalem. The setting was Sunday – the first day of the week. These men were walking to Emmaus, a small town eight miles north of Jerusalem. As they walked, they were talking about the events that had happened.

The last few years had been amazing. This man, Jesus, arrived on the scene performing miracles. He could raise people from the dead. He could take a loaf of bread, multiply it, and feed thousands of people. He could speak to a storm, and it would instantly cease.

They had seen all of this and they were talking about how their hopes had been crushed. They were walking in discouragement, but they should not have been. As they walked, Jesus drew near and walked with them, but they did not realize it was Him. Scripture tells us that they could not see that it was Jesus.

Jesus wanted to know what they were talking about and why they were so sad. Their response was to ask if He was a stranger in Jerusalem and did not know what was going on. Can you imagine talking to Jesus this way? They wanted to know how He could not possibly know everything that had happened.

Imagine asking the One Who knows everything why He does not know what is going on. We do that, though. We think we know better. We experience painful times, and like the two men on the road to Emmaus, we are left feeling confused and disheartened. We want to know how God could allow this.

The good news is that He does know what is going on. When we walk with Him and fellowship with Him, we will begin to see the purpose and plan that He has for our lives.
