DAY 6 OF 28

Hotline

There are a lot of benefits to giving your life to Jesus! One of those benefits is that you're able to communicate and hear from God [1 John 5:14]. As a follower of Jesus, we call this ‘prayer’. Prayer is our hotline to God, it's our ability to connect directly with Him. Although the thought of prayer might sound complex, it’s important to know that prayer is quite simply a conversation with God. Like any relationship we have in life, our relationship with God requires communication for it to develop and strengthen. Although there’s not a wrong way to pray, people often find that following a method helps. We recommend the A.C.T.S. method:

A stands for Adoration [Matt 6 9]. Spend some time praising God for ‘who He is’. (i.e. Thank You that You're my protector. Thank You that You're in control). As you grow in your understanding of God, you’ll have more things to say.

C stands for Confession [Matt 6:12]. Spend time asking for forgiveness for the sins you’ve committed. Ask God to reveal moments where you didn’t realise you had sinned or didn’t respond in a way that honours God.

T stands for Thanksgiving [Phil 4:6]. Spend some time thanking God for the good things He has done in your life. Moments you've seen God at work and prayers that He's answered.

S stands for Supplication [Matt 6:11]. This is another way of saying 'your needs'. Spend some time inviting God into your situations, believing in faith for him to miraculously meet your every need. But don’t just limit it to your life, spend some time praying for other people’s needs too.

We recommend spending a minute or two on each and gradually growing that over time. Feel free to write down what you want to pray for too, it can often help make the time more focussed. Lastly, don’t forget the best conversations are always two ways, leave some space for the Holy Spirit to speak to you too [Psalm 5:3].
