Associations Matter

DAY 2 OF 10

"Lot left…God spoke"

In Genesis 12 God revealed his plan, promises and blessings for Abram when he obediently departed from his known associations. In Genesis 13 we read about how “Abram was extremely rich in livestock and in silver and in gold” (v.2) and how his nephew Lot went with Abram. The bible tells us that due to Lot and Abram’s great possessions the land was not able to support them while they lived together and Abram conversed with his nephew regarding separation. Abram makes it clear to his nephew that the conversation they are having is not meant to disrespect or cause disagreement, it is just time to separate due to their possessions being too great for cohabitation.

Lot set out and went his way and that is when it happened. God spoke to Abram and showed him the land he promised to bless him and his descendants in. But, God spoke to Abram after the separation of association with Lot. This doesn’t mean that their relationship was severed, but it serves as example for us that we must take heed to what happened here.

God spoke to Abram after Lot left him. Let that sink in. God revealed his dynamic blessing to Abram when Lot left him. We must discern our connections to people and understand associations matter to our progress.

Associations could potentially interfere with the timing in which God will reveal things to you. When God instructs us to evaluate associations and discern connections it is not because he doesn’t want us to have relational bonds, God has a plan for our lives and not everyone can be apart of the plan He has specifically laid out for you during the physical developmental stages. There will be times when God might command separation for your elevation, if so trust the process.
