Two Ways to Live

DAY 6 OF 6

Two Ways to Live

Rev. Phillip Jensen, an Australian Anglian minister wrote Two Ways to Live which is perhaps the best evangelistic tracts in modern times. In it, Jensen summarises the gospel message by describing two ways. The first way is man’s way which is to reject God as the ruler and try to run life one’s own way resulting in condemnation by death and judgment. The other way is God’s way in Jesus which is to submit to Jesus as the ruler and rely on His death and resurrection resulting in forgiveness of sins and the gift of eternal life.

The first way is the way of the wicked which is not approved by God. This way seems right to this world, but its end is the way to death (Proverbs 14:12). While the road itself might be paved by good intentions, and surrounded by sights of happy vanities, its end is the shipwreck of one’s soul. The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). The way of wicked will perish for it is deep darkness and they do not know over what they stumble (Proverbs 4:19). In this way of rebellion, sin reigns supreme leading the wicked to their death and destruction.

In contrast, the LORD knows the way of the godly. Every step of the godly is known for He is the good shepherd who knows His flock (John 10:14). If anyone loves God, he is known by God (I Corinthians 8:3) and his way is approved by God. This is great comfort and consolation for the covenant people of God, for it is a sure certainty in a world of uncertainties. The Christian who fears the Lord has nothing to fear even on his worst days for the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until the full day (Proverbs 4:18). God’s word is a lamp for the feet and a light to his path (Psalm 119:105) leading one down the ways of righteousness. This way of righteousness is the path of faith in Christ and repentance from sin. In this way of righteousness, grace reigns supreme leading the godly to their heavenly home.

About this Plan

Two Ways to Live

“How shall we live?” is a question every person in this world must answer. The Psalmist in Psalm 1 tells us that ultimately there are only two ways to live in this world. Join me as we explore these two ways and answer “how shall we live?” by meditating on Psalm 1.
