Becoming a Fully Devoted Follower of ChristSample

Becoming a Fully Devoted Follower of Christ

DAY 2 OF 8

Today we are going to answer a couple of important questions:

What is baptism and why is important?

What is communion and why do we participate in it?

After you make a commitment to follow Jesus, you enter into a lifelong relationship with Jesus that will take you on an incredible journey. Baptism and communion are two actions we want you to understand on this journey of following Jesus.

What is the meaning of baptism?

     1. It illustrates Jesus’ burial and resurrection.

    2. It illustrates your new life as a follower of Christ.

Baptism doesn’t make you a believer, it demonstrates that you already believe. It’s important to understand that baptism does not “save” you. You are “saved” only by your faith in Jesus.

Baptism is like a wedding ring.-It’s the outward symbol of the commitment you make in your heart. Baptism is an outward sign of an inward commitment. This can be understood much like a wedding ring. A wedding ring is an outward sign of an eternal, inward commitment.

When should I be baptized? As soon as you have believed. Those who believe…were baptized…that day! (Acts 2:41)

There is no reason to delay. As soon as you have decided to receive Christ into your life, you can be baptized. If you wait until you are “perfect”, you’ll never be ready.

While baptism is a one-time experience, Jesus gave us another action that is intended to continue through the life of a follower of Jesus. It’s called the Lord’s Supper or some call it communion. This is a powerful way for followers of Christ to remember and celebrate what Christ did for us on the cross.

What is the Lord’s Supper?

In our reading today you can read from 1 Corinthians 11:23-26.

     1. It is a REMINDER (vs 24)

    2. It is a SYMBOL (vs 25)

    3. It is a STATEMENT OF FAITH (vs 26)

Who should take the Lord’s Supper? Only those who are already BELIEVERS

For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves. 1 Corinthians 11:29

How do I prepare myself for the Lord’s Supper?

You prepare yourself by…

     1. Self Examination (1 Corinthians 11:27)

    2. Confession of Sins (1 John 1:9)

    3. Recommitment (Romans 12:1)

    4. Restoring Relationships (Matthew 5:23-24)

Next Steps
    1. Sign up to get baptized.
