Becoming a Fully Devoted Follower of ChristSample

Congratulations! You’ve done an amazing job developing these spiritual habits. As a follower of Christ, it’s important to know that you are now a part of the body of Christ. What does that mean? 1 Corinthians 12:12 says "Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ." So you are an important part of the body, and God has given you specific gifts to be used in the body. Today we will talk about the S in habits: Serving others. God has given you a spiritual gift to be used in the church to build up the body of Christ. Today we are going to read a good portion of scripture that Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 12:4-31. 

WHY DO WE SERVE OTHERS? 

     1. Jesus modeled SERVING. 

Jesus himself said to his disciples, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.” Mark 9:35

He also said in Matthew 20:28 “Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

     2. Serving BUILDS UP the body of Christ.

"Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ." Ephesians 4:11-12

If we want to become like Jesus, we must live as Jesus lived. (1 John 2:6) Jesus served others and so we must develop the spiritual habit of serving. 

YOU DID IT! I am so proud of you and the steps you have taken over these 8 days/weeks. I can promise you, if you stay focused on these spiritual habits, God will do more in and through you than you can even imagine. Remember, life is better together and it is so important to surround yourself with people who will encourage you to keep going and keep pursuing Jesus. I know God is going to use you to change the world as you become a fully devoted follower of Christ!

Next Steps

    1.  Just start serving. Don’t wait. Contact your church and see what steps you need to take to begin serving in the church and as the church.

    2. Talk to a mentor or your Pastor about taking a spiritual gifts survey so you can begin to understand what gifts you have.

    3. Begin the 21 day Bible Plan "Becoming: Having a Dedicated Time with Jesus" as you dive into the Gospel of John.
