DAY 3 OF 6

Yours

"But now, this is what the LORD says— he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine." Isaiah 43:1

About a year before lockdown, I was at a Thursday night prayer meeting that I had gathered to intercede and pray for the headlines and heart cries we were hearing around the world. At the end of the meeting, two people who I’d asked to lead a time of prayer, said, ‘There is one more thing we really felt the Lord wanted us to pray for today and that is… YOU!’ What happened next was incredible: the forty or so people present descended upon me and began to pray their best prayers. In the middle of the mess a Bible verse was uttered, Psalm 89:

‘You spoke to your prophets in visions, saying,

“I have found a mighty hero for my people.

I have chosen David as my loving servant and exalted him.

I have anointed him as king with the oil of my holiness.

I will be strength to him, and I will give him

my grace to sustain him no matter what comes

None of his enemies will get the best of him,

nor will the wicked one overpower him…’

As I went home that night, I felt a new sense of God being ‘for me’ – that I was His and He was mine. The next day I woke up and wrote this song 'Yours' - it just spilled out of me, as I poured my heart out in worship to the One who declared that I first and foremost belong to Him.

Time and time again in the Bible we see the picture of God as a great and loving Father who wants us to know a simple yet profound and life changing truth: that we belong to Him.

And then, in turn, hear our heart cry back: ‘I am Yours.’

Every time we not only hear this, but allow it to sink deep into the soul, our confidence begins to rise, our sense of the miraculous goes through the roof and the peace that passes all understanding becomes clearer than ever. We remember that we know the God who made the heavens, named every star, sees every blade of grass – and also hears every single cry from His beloved children.

TO DO:

Spend time reflecting on Isaiah 43:1 and maybe try replacing the names Jacob and Israel with your own name. Allow that truth to permeate your heart and mind again. Then ask: with this confidence what might I do differently in my life right now?
