DAY 5 OF 6

Praise to You Alone

And Jesus answered him, ‘It is written, “You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.” Luke 4:8

When I first started to lead worship, one of my favourite practices was to head down to the local church on my own and just spend time in God’s presence worshipping and singing out to Him. There was something special about the echo in that place, and (when the heating was aligned to be on at the same time as me being there!) I could stay for ages simply worshipping Him alone with a growing fascination of my Saviour.

It will never get old, the story and life of the Saviour of the world. From the cross to the crown there are so many reasons to praise. Yet, in a culture that predominately screams, ‘Me, me, me’, the power of worship at its best is when the focus becomes all about Him alone. Through that lens, we actually discover the true version of ourselves, too, in the light of His glory.

One of the key moments in the life of Jesus is during His temptation (Matthew 4:1-11), when Satan tempts him to bow down and worship him. Jesus’ comeback is to quote scripture from Deuteronomy 6 that says we should worship and serve God alone.

It’s vital to know, in light of His death and glorious resurrection, that we are now called to sing one name alone: the name higher than any other, the name of Jesus, who, ‘bruised and broken, dragged through dirt’ has emerged victorious in blazing brightness as our risen Saviour. And all this done for each and every one of us.

TO DO:

Spend time simply worshipping the name of Jesus, without request, or demand. Allow your worship to be framed by a focus on the One who is worthy.

About this Plan

Rewilding

Rewilding is an invitation to live in the wide-open, spacious life that God calls us into. It's a journey of resetting, recalibration and rediscovery. Join Gas Street Music on this 6-day devotional, where together, we will return to that wide-open space, embracing what's wild and unhindered and drawing from the goodness of the soil wherever we've been planted.
