Real Hope: Back to EgyptSample
The Passover
ADDITIONAL READING EXODUS 12
When I was in Israel, I asked my Jewish friend, ‘What is the most important moment of the whole Old Testament?’ Without a thought, she quickly said, ‘the Passover’.
The Passover commemorates the biblical story of Exodus, where God freed the Israelites from slavery in Egypt.
What happened at the Passover? Those who put their trust in God’s way of salvation and put the blood of the unblemished lamb over the doors of their houses experienced safety and freedom from their slavery. Their lives were changed forever!
God told them to make sure they celebrated this event every year so they would never forget it. Why? Because One would come who would live a sinless life, and during the feast of Passover would shed His blood so that we could escape the wrath our sin deserves and be set free from our enslavement to sin and death. Jesus came as the Lamb of God to save us. Our salvation does not come from the life of Christ, but from His death and resurrection. The Bible says, ‘without shedding of blood, there is no remission’ (Hebrews 9:22).
By His death, the power of the enemy was broken. We were released from bondage and oppression. We were set free to enter into God’s promises each and every day we walk with Him. Jesus is leading the greatest exodus in the history of the world… The way to freedom.
