The Warrior’s Bride: Military Family ResiliencySample
LIVING WITH A WOUNDED SOUL
What do we do when the job comes home? Soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, and guardsmen have stood on the battleground with evil for many years now, and they are all changed by it. The mental and physical wounds of war can sometimes be seen and sometimes only felt, but they are all very real. And the Bible does not give me an easy path out of my marriage if I don’t like the wounds of war.
But that doesn’t mean God leaves me in my mess, with no recourse. In fact, He is very clear, telling me exactly what to do:
Sacrifice thank offerings to God,
fulfill your vows to the Most High,
and call on Me in the day of trouble;
I will deliver you, and you will honor Me (Psalm 50:14-15).
God knew that sometimes as we fulfilled our vows we would be standing in the day of trouble. And here He promises that when we call, He will do more than hear us. More than answer us. He will deliver us.
Not change our circumstances—but deliver us. Not make life easier, but continue to prove faithful to us (1 Corinthians 1:9). Not be a fairy godmother who makes life easy, but provide for us everything we need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). Not fight the battle for us, but remind us that if He is for us, nothing can stand against us (Romans 8:31).
Consider:
- Where is your biggest struggle within the military lifestyle?
Pray:
Father, You have called me and my family to the military, and we want to honor You by standing firm in that call. You are our shield. Equip us to do the job before us with grace and faithfulness, and help us to see Your provision.

About this Plan
The military asks a lot of its members and their families: moving, long distance relationships, changing plans and changing plans again. Uncertainty and barely managed chaos seem to be the order of the day. But you don’t have to merely survive. No matter what the government throws at your family, you can thrive as your warrior’s bride.
