The Warrior’s Bride: Military Family ResiliencySample
MARRIED TO THE SUPERSUIT
Have you ever watched the 2004 Disney Pixar movie, The Incredibles? In the movie, Frozone must go help save the world, and his wife Honey must put aside her dinner plans and allow him the freedom to go.
Scrapping plans for the greater good is often hard. Think about how many special occasions you’ve postponed, shortened, or dumped because your military member was called in for training. Or deployed. Or locked down in his area because someone couldn’t find some piece of equipment that had to be accounted for before anyone could leave.
But these men who are determined to save the world—that’s exactly who we married. And when you dig deep, putting aside all your selfish emotions, I hope you find that you want your man to do what God created and purposed for him to do.
It’s easy to forget the bigger picture in the moment, but God’s best is, well, best. Even when it’s hard. Even when it ruins an evening or cuts short a birthday. Even when it means Christmas presents are opened in February or an anniversary is celebrated six weeks early. Even when you have to spend your birthday with friends because your husband is across an ocean. Even when you sit at home alone on Valentine’s Day.
Even then.
In those moments when dinner is ruined or plans must be canceled, don’t forget God’s awesome plan. Take time to consider the greater good within your home. As your husband seeks to lay down his life for his country, strive to lay down your life for your man.
Consider:
- What is your biggest challenge in being married to the supersuit?
- In what practical ways can you remember the greater good within your home as your man rushes out the door to serve the greater good in the world?
Pray:
Father, sometimes being a military spouse is hard. As my husband seeks to fulfill the purpose You put within him, help me to remember Your way is best. Help me to lay down my life for You, for my man, and for my family.

About this Plan
The military asks a lot of its members and their families: moving, long distance relationships, changing plans and changing plans again. Uncertainty and barely managed chaos seem to be the order of the day. But you don’t have to merely survive. No matter what the government throws at your family, you can thrive as your warrior’s bride.
