Come and See: An Invitation to Meet Jesus

DAY 3 OF 5

Have you ever thought, "This isn't the way things are supposed to be?" Most people have.

The realities of life stir up many emotions in people. For some, that might include anger, shame, and hurt. It's hard to move past those strong emotions. They can be overwhelming. They can even feel like death sometimes.

Have you felt this way? Often those emotions are a result of sin. Sin is when we put our ultimate trust in anything other than God. It could be things that we chase after (relationships, material things, status, and more), thinking they'll make us happy or complete. These things might be good, but when we put all our hope in them, they leave us feeling empty.

Have you ever thought, "If I can just get a car, that job, that guy, that fill-in-the-blank, then everything will be better?" But then when you do get it, it's eventually a let-down, and you still feel empty?

There has to be something greater in life, something that can repair and restore what's broken. There is!

The Bible tells us there is hope. We don't have to be stuck in the feelings of disappointment, anger, hopelessness, sin, and death because Jesus took on all the sins of the world when he willingly died on the cross. He did this so we can have the right relationship with him.

So when we think, "This isn't the way things are supposed to be," remember this: things can be the way they're supposed to be with Jesus. He understands injustice, pain, brokenness, disappointment, hurt, and abandonment, and he says to you, "I'm right here with you. I felt it all and bore it all on the cross so you could have life and forgiveness." Now that's true love!

REFLECTION

What do you turn to that keeps you feeling empty?

What are your thoughts about having a relationship with Jesus?
