SWHW Bible Reading Plan: July 2021Sample
Top Takeaway from Audra Haney:
Our call to be in the world but not of the world isn’t an easy one. It can be easy to feel lonely in your obedience and call to Christ.
In a world that is increasingly hostile to the things of God, wholeheartedly pursuing Jesus comes with a cost. In Hebrews 6, Paul has some strong words of correction for believers who were losing hope and losing sight of God’s promises. But in his rebuke, he gives an important reminder- our labor from and for Christ is not in vain.
“God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized. We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.” Hebrews 6:10-12
We don’t work for our righteousness (our right standing with Christ), but we do work from it. One definition of the word labor is “to make a great effort.” In a quick return world, God has given us hard work. Hard work that requires patience.
Loving others in this world demands great effort. Swimming against culture is hard work. Helping others requires fortitude.
However, if we hold to the very end, what a HOPE we have. What an undeserved return on our investment we have. When we walk by faith and not sight in this world, we can boldly lay claim to everything God has promised.
Friend, I do not know the ground or the hard work to which God has called you. I do not know what diligence and patience are required of you.
But I do know the power and the person of Jesus that you have access to every day. I know His strength and resources are unlimited. I do know if He’s called you to it, He will provide.
And, I can say to you boldly: God sees you and this will all be worth it.
Father, help us to renew our passion and diligence to the things You’ve called us to. We know You are familiar with our struggles and pain, and You are faithful to meet us in them. Strengthen us and sustain us in our callings. Help us to hold fast to Your hope and promises. You are faithful. Amen.
About this Plan
Using God's Word as the foundation for our conversation, every devotional is written by women in the trenches of faith, family and work; aiming to live for the glory of God and the good of others. There are enough devotions included for a typical 5-day work schedule. We recommend plugging into your local church for the remaining two days of each week.
