The Great Battle

DAY 3 OF 7

Jesus has conquered Satan

The battle between God and Satan came to a climax when God the Son took on human form. He was born as a human baby named Jesus, and when He was about 30 years old, He began His earthly ministry. His aim was to bring about reconciliation between God and man, and to free people from Satan’s grip.

Of course, Satan tried to prevent this with all his might. He tried to kill baby Jesus, but his plan did not succeed. Later, he tried to tempt Jesus into disobedience to God the Father (see Matthew 4:8-10) and to mock his work. But, all this was to no avail. Jesus carried out His ministry without ever committing any sin. He was determined to fulfill His salvation plan to free people from sin and death by dying in their place.

Although Jesus’ death on the cross may have looked like Satan’s final triumph, it actually meant the devil’s downfall. Satan’s goal has always been to separate people from God and to destroy them. But Jesus has opened a way for sinful humans to be made right with God again and to enjoy eternal life in His presence. By doing so, He has destroyed the works of the devil. Praise to our Lord who has triumphed!

About this Plan

The Great Battle

The Bible calls God “the God of peace”, but also depicts Him as a rider who will strike down the nations with a sharp sword. If we want to understand this paradox, we need to know the basic background story about the battle between God and Satan. This Reading Plan takes seven days to explain it to you.
