The Poor Rich ManSample

The Poor Rich Man

DAY 5 OF 5

AS GOOD AS IT GETS

If you are a parent, you know the joy of spoiling your children. We want our children to lack nothing and to experience the best the world has to offer. The problem is that they might end up with nothing to look forward to. The life they have experienced already may be as good as it gets.

Wealthy people may fall into the same trap. Instead of looking forward to the glory of Heaven when Christ returns, it is easy to believe we already have it all. We dread the day we die, having to leave it all behind. And that is where we risk it all.

In Matthew 16, Jesus warns against clinging to our earthly lives. "'If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it'" (Matthew 16:25, NLT).

What do you think Heaven will be like? Do you feel excited about exchanging your life on Earth for Heaven?

The best is yet to come! Nothing on Earth can prepare you for the glory of God's new kingdom. While you enjoy your earthly blessings, remember that nothing compares to the beauty of Heaven. "The twelve gates were made of pearls – each gate from a single pearl! And the main street was pure gold, as clear as glass. I saw no temple in the city, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. And the city has no need of sun or moon, for the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its light" (Revelation 21:21-23, NLT).

Day 4

About this Plan

The Poor Rich Man

What emotions do you experience when you see someone who is wealthy? Perhaps envy or distrust? In Mark 10, Jesus felt intense compassion for a rich man He interacted with. In this plan, we will explore why financial prosperity often makes it hard to follow Christ. I hope that you will discover a whole new dimension of God's love for people from all walks of life.
