Grace Upon Grace With Sophie HudsonSample

DAY 3
For as long as I can remember, I have loved watching television. I’m well aware that my love of TV might not be the most, um, academic part of my personality. But for what it’s worth, I don’t watch just to numb out and disconnect from my real life. I watch because one of my favorite things in the world is getting absolutely immersed in a story.
Recently one show absolutely captivated me. It’s a docuseries about four doctors who work in a New York hospital, and two of the doctors are neurosurgeons. Given the demanding nature of their work, I sort of expected that they would move through their days by disconnecting, by depersonalizing the sometimes very grim situations their patients face. I was oh-so-wrong, however.
The doctors actually begin each procedure by sharing the story of the person on the operating table. They share the person’s name, family background, work, medical history—sometimes even anecdotes about interactions with that particular patient. These are world-class surgeons, but their care for their patients is personal.
I don’t know if you’ve thought about it lately (and no shame if you haven’t because clearly, I needed a TV docuseries to remind me), but these doctors are a reminder of how Jesus cares for us. He knows it all, my friends. He knows our strengths, He knows our weaknesses, He knows our sin, and He knows our shame. He knows where we hurt, who we love, and how our future turns out. There’s a reason we don’t have to introduce ourselves to Him every time we pray: He knows who we are. And not only that: our stories are safe in His care.
I keep thinking about the deep, assuring grace of being known. As Jesus sees us, loves us, and directs us, He does every bit of that from a place of complete knowing. You don’t have to earn His interest; you don’t have to demand His attention. Just like the surgeons in the TV show are very closely attending to the needs of their patients, Jesus (and I think it’s safe to say that Jesus is, you know, on a whole 'nother level) is very closely attending to the needs of His children. In every situation, He is your fiercest advocate. And every single day of your life, He is your safest place for help, health, and healing.
Walk into today with the assurance that you are completely seen, completely known, and completely loved. What grace. What a Savior.

About this Plan

This plan is based on Sophie Hudson’s teen journaling devotional, “Grace Upon Grace”, created to remind the young women who read it that while the love of Christ compels us to extend grace to one another, it should also compel us to rest in the grace that He extends to us. “Walk into today with the assurance that you are completely seen, completely known, and completely loved.” -Sophie Hudson
