Okay, one more list of names. (You can do this!) There is always a reason God includes individual names for generation after generation to read. Sometimes it’s to record history and provide proof of belonging or being. Other times it serves to remind us of the importance of a decision or action. In the verses today we see a group of individuals desiring to be included but there was no proof that they belonged. Their names could not be found in the records. They were unable to be included in the priesthood and could not participate in ministering to the people. 

This may seem harsh, but the Law of God clearly laid out the stipulations that only priests with a direct family line of Aaron could serve at the altar of God. There is a similar stipulation in the New Testament that certainly affects each of us today. It states that without Jesus we have no access to the Father. There is a book with the names of all those who trust in Jesus and proclaim He is the Son of God. Having your name in that book is the certainty of your eternal existence. If you were required to prove your genealogy to enter God’s city, could you do it? Have you entered God’s family by believing and confessing that Jesus is Savior? It’s not too late. Make that decision today.
