When we hear and understand God’s Word, it requires a response from us. Hopefully, that response is positive and generates life change. After the assembly of people heard the law read and explained to them, they wanted more. They returned the next morning for another session. They wanted to study the words of the law with Ezra and increase their understanding. May we all have that hunger for God’s Word.
When the people realized God wanted them to have celebrations and holy days designed to remind them of His provision and faithfulness; of how He rescued them from captivity and into freedom, they desired to honor Him with their obedience. They followed the instructions set out for them and fully engaged in celebrating a holy time as they learned more and more about God.
The same applies to us today. When we devote ourselves to reading and meditating on God’s Word it can ignite a passion within us that demands more. We will have the hunger and thirst for more and more of God. And this will lead to a deeper and greater understanding of who He is and just how much we need Him. Then our hearts will be changed which will result in a change in our thoughts and actions.
