Behind the Mask - Exposing the Lies We Believe

DAY 1 OF 5

Have you ever been to a costume party or a masquerade ball? It is fun to dress up in a costume and pretend to be someone or something else for a night, but it isn’t reality. You know that a costume is a costume, and you know there is a face behind that mask. Speaking of masks, we’ve all learned to figure out life behind a mask during this pandemic, haven’t we? While they’re not fun to wear, there are benefits like not having to worry about food in your teeth, not needing to cover up your bad breath, and being able to hide your expression when someone says something weird!

Throughout this plan, we want to take a look at life “Behind the Mask.” Masks can cover up a lot of things—way more than our bad breath or food in our teeth. They often cover up the truth with a lie. That’s exactly what we want to explore in this plan.

We often fall into believing lies that the world and Satan try to tell us are true. In fact, Jesus called Satan the “father of lies.” Satan is known for trying to convince us that the lie IS the truth, and we wind up confused about who we are, what we believe, who God is, and so much more. We will study this week a few of the lies we believe and how Jesus himself is the truth we need.

Reflect: What are some lies you believe . . . about yourself? About Jesus? About the world?

Pray: God, please speak to me through your Word this week. Reveal the truth to me more than ever before, and open my eyes and my heart to believe and know the truth. Amen.

Day 2

About this Plan

Behind the Mask - Exposing the Lies We Believe

What Jesus says about himself is in stark contrast to what we hear from the devil. We want to get real, talk authentically, and expose the lies that many of us have believed about satisfaction, death, trust, and joy. So let’s get ready to get behind the mask.
