Behind the Mask - Exposing the Lies We BelieveSample

Have you ever been so hungry that you will eat just about anything? We all know the term “hangry” as the point of hunger that makes us angry. When we get to this point, we just need food. More than likely, we don’t always turn to the most healthy options when we’re hungry. 

Spiritually speaking, we all have a hunger inside of us. We’re built to have an appetite, but the devil often lies and says that the things of this world will satisfy our hunger. We shop and spend money on the next piece of technology or trendy outfit only to find that material things don’t make us feel whole. We think more followers on TikTok or Instagram will give us power and influence, but it leaves us feeling nothing. We pursue relationship after relationship hoping that a person will fill a void in our lives, but that person doesn’t “complete” us. We turn to sex or pornography thinking that human touch (or the idea of it) will satisfy our hunger, but it only leads to hurt and a deeper hunger for more. 

There are endless things to turn to when we feel the void in our hearts, but none of them can satisfy. Only Jesus can satisfy our deep hunger. In John 6, Jesus says “I am the bread of life.” That sounds like a strange way to introduce yourself, but Jesus was speaking to the crowds who were following him looking for something to fill their hunger. By Jesus saying this, he was letting them know that only in Him could they find life and be satisfied. 

Reflect: What do you often try to satisfy your “hunger” with instead of Jesus? 

Pray: Jesus, I acknowledge that you are the only one who can satisfy my deep hunger. I confess to you the ways I’ve tried to be satisfied with the world, but I only find myself hungry for more. I want to know You, Jesus, and be filled with You. Amen.
