Shelter From The Storm

DAY 1 OF 10

Shelter From the Storm

Storms of life are inevitable. I wish it weren't so, but it is. While the depth and breadth and severity may differ from one person to another, we can all count on storms showing up at our door. That's just real life, isn't it? Beloved, step back, take a breath, and seek to discover His hand, His very presence with you in the storm.

There are no shortcuts to abiding in the shelter of the Almighty. Allow me to share what has given me the practical ability to ride out the storms and to rest in His shelter. Open His Word. (Psalms is my go-to place for the challenges of life.) Hide His Word in your heart by reading and rereading it, and then read it some more. Keep His Word before you.

Use sticky notes if you have to; do what it takes to remind yourself of the truth. Talk with Him. Bare your soul in an authentic way - forget religious talk and be real. Bow low before Him by laying your dashed hopes and expectations at His feet, and He will lift you up. Trust Him. Take Him at His Word when He promises to comfort, strengthen, and do the impossible for you and in you. Allow His presence to become the reality it is.

Prayer for the Day

Father, sometimes the wind and waves of this storm cause me to feel overwhelmed and even angry with You. Forgive me. I release myself and my difficulties into Your hands. Please envelop me in Your peace and renew my hope. Help me to abide in the shelter only You can provide. Grant me Your perspective in this storm. I choose to trust You. In Jesus's name, amen.
