DAY 2 OF 6

Theologians believe Mary was around sixteen years old when the angel appeared to her and said that she would give birth to the Son of the world. Can you imagine being that age and hearing that? I’m sure Mary was anxious and nervous. She was facing the unknown.

Scriptures say in Luke 1:34, “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” Mary wondered, how could that happen to her? But even more, she probably wondered how the community would respond to her?

Some of us could currently be in this kind of unknown season of life. Maybe it is a promotion you’re waiting for, maybe you and your spouse want a child but are facing infertility, or maybe you are facing life’s financial hardships.

Mary’s responses can be ones we learn from and apply to our lives. In Luke 1:38, Mary gives a powerful response. She says, “I am the Lord’s servant. May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her. “

Mary trusted the Lord. She may not have known all of the details, but she knew she could trust the Lord. Why is that? Because she knew the heart and character of God, that He was and is always faithful. He has never failed, and He wouldn’t fail with her or us.

During the Christmas season, whatever challenges lie ahead, trust Him. Trust His plans, ways, and thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9) are higher and better than ours. Trust in His timing.

Reflection:

In what areas of life is God asking you to trust Him more? Are there things God is asking you to surrender?
